The 49ers are in a very interesting position with their current quarterback depth chart. The 49ers also just drafted Trey Lance with the 3rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The team also still has veteran Jimmy Garoppolo on the roster as well. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has always wanted competition at all positions groups since he took over as head coach. When the team traded up for the 3rd overall pick in the 2021 Draft, it was obvious that the team was going to take one of the very talented quarterbacks coming out of the draft. This makes a lot of sense with Jimmy Garoppolo’s injury history and his questionable play last season. Now the big question is who should start, Jimmy Garoppolo or Trey Lance?
This question has been going around 49ers fans since the team has drafted Trey Lance. Some think that the team should get Trey Lance in there and, that he is ready to start. Other people still think that Jimmy Garoppolo should start and give Trey Lance a chance to sit and learn the playbook. While the position on the team is a little complicated is a good problem to have. The team has two very talented quarterbacks on the roster. With Garoppolo proving that he can win the team games and get the team to the Super Bowl. My opinion on this is that the team should start Jimmy Garoppolo and give Trey Lance a chance to learn the playbook and get acclimated to the NFL. The 49ers have a proven veteran on the roster who knows can win them games. The 49ers also drafted a very talented rookie high in the draft who, they obviously believe in. While no one knows for sure who will be starting week one, I believe in the coaching staff to make the best possible decision for the team.
