San Francisco Football Legends Take On ALS
*Around 1990, 27 former 49er football player veterans who were formerly members of the “Team of the 80’s” and other dignitaries wanted to do something to raise money for ALS research. They rallied on the “sidelines” and came up with the idea to share their collective memories with the public of their days on and off the playing field that would be sold on video tape (the popular format of the time) to raise money for ALS research. In October of 2017 when Dwight Clark passed from ALS it was decided that the time was right to resurrect this project and possibly even, stimulate a sequel of more recent stories for the same purpose. The oral histories presented here are time-capsule precious and give 49er fans a good look into the history of the beginning of football in San Francisco. Time has passed and a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) is yet to be found. This presentation is the dream these athletes had as their way to help.
